Just discovered Windows Live Writer…. December 28, 2006

It even applies the theme (rather the CSS rules, etc.) that you are using on your blog to the editing window. Color me impressed.
I think this is an appropriate time to talk about how much I prefer desktop apps to web based apps. Even with the recent Web2.0 advancements (AJAX and other technologies), it still feels like web-apps don’t seem to cut it. I believe the main reason being the fact that desktop programmers have more power under the hood; that is they are not limited by the widgets that are made available to them by the browser. Nor do they have to recreate some really advanced but functional widgets using JavaScript and DHTML. It is for this reason, I still believe that the web is not really ready for being a full application platform.
Maybe with something like XUL, it could work out; but anything less and it doesn’t feel right.
